The fashion trends of the early 2000s are making a comeback, bringing back funny and unique moments from the fashion history of 2005. It’s intriguing to understand why these trends are echoing back now.
During my college years, I developed an obsession with fashion prediction articles found in magazines. I often wondered where these predictions originated from. I discovered that fashion editors invested considerable time tracing the fabrics and materials ordered by top luxury brands. Based on these findings, the editors would write articles predicting what might go viral.
In addition to fashion editors, astrologers also played a role in predicting fashion trends. They would analyze the positions of the Nodes to make these predictions. The North Node represents what we need to focus on, while the South Node signifies what we need to let go or release. Nodes are a miniature representation of how our solar system moves through the Milky Way galaxy, a process known as the precession of the equinox. It takes several years for the complete cycle, spending approximately 2160 years in each zodiac sign, known as ages. Currently, our solar system has entered the age of Aquarius, where humanity is expected to focus on themes such as humanitarian work, equality, and green energy. While we cannot predict precisely how things will be when the solar system enters the next sign or subsequent signs, we can experience some of these energies through the transit of the Nodes, as they move more quickly than the precession of the equinox. The full cycle of the Nodes takes around 20 years, with approximately 18 months spent in each sign. Currently, the Nodes are in Taurus and Scorpio but will soon change signs.
Back in 2005, the North Node was in the sign of Aries, which greatly influenced the fashion of that era. It was a time when Aries’ personality traits were showcased, emphasizing “me” and “my identity.” The fashion trends during this period were characterized by their uniqueness, vivid colors, large and bold designs, and even nonsensical layering. Additionally, there was a widespread obsession with honey beige foundation, which often made people look somewhat orange (since Aries is associated with a red face). Aries, being the youngest sign in the zodiac, evoked a childlike or infantile essence, reflected in the way everyone dressed at that time.
Considering the current dominance of beige and luxury modern styles, we can expect a toning down of these elements as the South Node moves into the sign of Libra. Libra represents the world of high-end art galleries, and consequently, excessively tailored and beautified fashion will gradually fade away. In contrast, Aries’ fashion was akin to a Toys “R” Us or a kids’ playroom.
To embrace the revival of early 2000s fashion, it’s a great idea to explore your closet for old fashion items or seek out statement pieces at local thrift shops. This approach allows you to incorporate nostalgic elements into your wardrobe and create a unique style that reflects your individuality.
